CultureMap Austin­ has the buzz on the W Austin rooftop apiary

 

The W Austin’s new rooftop apiary, a project partially initiated and coordinated by The Center, is featured in a CultureMap Austin article titled “W Austin’s new rooftop apiary to produce 4,000 pounds of honey per year”. The project allows the W Austin hotel and the waning central Texas bee population to each benefit. With up to potentially 40 bee boxes, the W Hotel can produce thousands of pounds of honey and use the honey as a hotel commodity in its restaurant and bar, TRACE, its spa, AWAY, and in guest room minibars. Additionally, there is an entire rooftop garden that the bees will feast on and that TRACE will eventually use for homegrown herbs.
