Author Mitchell Parker discusses why Austin pushes the bounds of conventional aesthetics, stating part of that drive emanates from "Austin’s early relationship with the green building movement. The city was the first with a green building program, and the Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems has been a major player in the green movement since its inception in the 1970s."
